Happy Friday to all of my friends out there! Autumn has finally come to Morgantown and I am enjoying the sunshine as I work in my studio. I completed another painting this week (yippee!!!), and I'm excited to share it with you. It is a mixed media painting that I've worked in collage and acrylic paints. I have really loved painting on a big canvas! I hope the bright colors will add a little happiness to your day.
Sunflowers With Fruit
Mixed Media On Canvas
30" x 40"
This is how it looked in the early stages. I usually sketch the composition in light, colored charcoal pencil. I like Derwent Tinted Charcoal pencils. If I need to make adjustments while I'm drawing, I can use a light mister to spray the charcoal and wipe it away. I then mix golden fluid acrylic with matte medium to further thin it out, and paint in the lines for the major structures. I like to collage the canvas to give texture to the work and occasionally allow it to peak through the paint.
Here it is a bit further along in the process. You also get to see just how messy the floor of my studio gets in the middle of a painting!
