Have you ever gotten started with something and you were so engrossed in the process that you just couldn't stop? Before I knew it last night, the night turned into one-thirty in the morning! At least I had something to show for it. I finished a miniature pastel landcape painting.

After sleeping in this morning, I got up and did it all over again!

Pastel on Ampersand Pastelbord
I added to my pastel arsenal this week. I broadened my green assortment, since I tend to focus on landscapes. Unison has a beautiful selection of greens.
I've also been working with Great American Artworks Pastels. Their denim blues are wonderful for skies, and the aubergines are beautiful for flowers.
I work primarily on Ampersand Pastelbord. They are museum-quality hard boards coated with marble dust. The tooth that the marble dust gives them allows them to hold many layers of pastel. This is so important. As one layer shows through another, a great deal of depth and interest is created. I've been waiting all summer for the 12" x 12" boards. I love to work in a square format, but they've been backordered forever. I opened my door to a delightful surprise this morniing.
I really should get some sleep tonight, but who knows? I'm on a roll!
Until next time,
