As I look outside, my heart sings with the beautiful sky. My first Zentangle-inspired art is aptly named Soar.
I used Pigma Micron pens, sizes 01, 05, and 08. I shaded with a no. 2 pencil. I can't wait to try adding color to my tangles!

I was inspired by a cute photo of a cottage to create this page for my Art Journal. When my son was small, we lived in Portugal for about six months while my husband was there on assignment. Although it was a once in a lifetime experience, there was a place in my heart that never left home.

Have you ever just needed time to regroup and catch up? It's been awhile since my last post, and I feel as if that's what I needed. I've been working madly to finish a Christmas quilt, and also to process hundreds of photos from Maine. Then there were various doctors' appointments and a trip to Intercourse, PA with my sister. In the middle of all that, the engine in my van literally blew up on Monday. My son was heading home after a day of classes and he swears that all he did was turn the key :) His description of the sounds of the dying engine was hilarious (kabooom, poppoppop, wumpawumpawumpa...). Today, I finally finished a painting from my art journal that's been on the drawing table for the last two weeks.
I'm really working at the "rejoice" part today :)

It's Friday already! This has been a busy week here. We've had the usual hustle and bustle of getting our son ready for his second year of college...textbooks, clothes, parking permits, etc. I had to smile when he came home from school (he's commuting) and told me his feet hurt from walking so much and that he thought he needed a new pair of shoes. We discovered that he is indeed still growing. His shoes needed to be a half size bigger than they were eight months ago. He towers over me at 6"2" (At least, that's how tall he was last year. Now...who knows?) Yesterday, my husband and I marked our 32nd anniversary. After our summer of gallivanting about the country, we were contented to celebrate with a pizza :) While he was at the office today, I finished a new piece of art.
I used my Caran D'Ache Neocolor II water-soluble crayons and inked with a Sakura Pigma Micron .05 pen. The verse is Psalm 65:7-9. After painting all those flowers, it seemed to fit! Hello and happy Monday! I hope all of you are well. How did everyone fair during the hurricane? I'm so thankful that it wasn't nearly so severe as had been feared, but still my heart goes out to the families of those who were lost. I spent the stormy weekend doing what I love the most: painting. Would you like to see what I worked on?
I came across this verse on Saturday morning, and when I sat down at my drawing table, this is what poured out.
I worked it completely in water-soluble crayons and pen and ink. I finally finished at 3:00 this morning. I believe in striking while the iron is hot! I'm wishing you joy today.

I recently joined a wonderful group called Art Journal Every Day. It is the brainchild of Julie Balzer at Balzer Designs. If you are new to art journaling, or you just want to know what it's all about, please pay her a visit. I know you will be inspired by all of the wonderful art and technique there.
For this page, I used a brand of watercolors called Twinkling H20s. They are highly pigmented watercolors that have mica in them. They have a metallic-like shine and brilliant color.
I had forgotten how much fun experimenting with line and pattern could be!
