I wanted to share my latest pastel painting with you yesterday, but the New Jersey shore was calling to me. I spent a lovely day on the beach there with my sister.

Pastel on Ampersand Pastelbord
I used red under the grasses to give them a bit of sparkle.
When I began adding local color, I started with the color of the river bed before working the reflections on the water. I pressed the brown into the board using a color shaper tool. These nifty tools provide a way to move pastel color exactly where you want it. They are wonderful for blurring or defining edges.
Color shapers come in multiple sizes and degrees of stiffness.
Thank you so much for visiting! I hope you are having a wonderful summer.
Until next time,
