Hello, my friends! Today's art journal page is a message about never, ever selling yourself short. You are so much more than you can imagine.
More Than You Know
9" x 12"
Mixed media on Canson all-media paper
Come and look over my shoulder. I'll show you how I created it. I began by tearing a variety of patterned papers and adhering them with liquid matte medium.
Next I blocked in some color by scraping all-purpose craft paints onto the surface with an old credit card. I like this method because it appears to be more weathered.
To deepen the edges around the color blocks, I used Caran D'Ache Neocolor II water-soluble crayons. I colored the edges first, and then spread the color with a damp brush. I added a bit of writing with a Pitt graphite pencil and then began layering collage elements. I colorized the black and white photo of the girls in Photoshop CS5. At this point, I sprayed the page with Krylon matte spray to prevent the water-soluble crayons from smearing.
On the left side, I drew in a vine and colored it with Prismacolor colored pencils.
I added a few more elements and toned some of them down by smearing a very light layer of gesso over them.
I printed out the quote in the My Underwood font and added the butterflies. Finally, using an Adirondack ink pad in Butterscotch, I rubbed the edges of the composition. Using a damp brush I tapped it into the ink to soften edges.
Have a wonderful day!
Until next time,
