Between last night and today, I have been having some serious fun. I've been having the urge to do some mixed media painting, and my watercolors were feeling a bit confining. I cleaned off the work table, pulled out the Liquitex heavy body paints and unwrapped a canvas board. That first splash of color on that white surface gave me a feeling somewhat akin to taking a bite of chocolate cake. You know what I'm talking about...that moment of ecstasy, when that incredible flavor zaps your taste buds? Once I got started, the work took on a life of its own.
Off The Grid
14" x 18"
Mixed Media on Canvas Board
I used Liquitex Heavy Body acrylics, random paper scraps and pages from an antique German magazine. I used Liquitex Matte Medium to adhere the paper scraps and then sealed over them with more matte medium. The white grid-like patches were created by painting over the netting from a bag of onions. The dots were created by using an empty card from scrapbooking pop dots as a stencil.
I can't tell you how liberating it was to start out with absolutely no plan in mind and to allow the project to develop as I went along. Try it! Spontaneity is a wonderful booster of creativity. That's all for now. I'm heading back to the studio...
Until next time,

Love, love this piece, Terri!
Looks as bright and beautiful as it was liberating!
So inspiring!
Best,
Mary

I use the Liquitex products too and am having great fun with them. And I just got my FIRST EVER canvas boards to try out! I have been out of my art space for almost a week now and after reading your inspiring post I am ready to head back and create!! Thank you for sharing Off The Grid.
